This is Belinda Bothwick, current President of the Lovejoy Shores Association. I hope you all are enjoying our gradual move into summer, and looking forward to spending time on our beautiful lake!
I am writing to let you all know that, in accordance with a Board decision and the membership vote at the annual Association meeting in August of last year, we have replaced the old and faulty lock on the boat launch chain, which now is up and locked.
The old keys will not work on the new lock. New keys are available to all LSA members who have paid their dues for the current year (August 1, 2020 - July 31, 2021), the dues which were due by last year's annual meeting. A $6 refundable deposit (cash or check) will be required at the time of key receipt to cover the cost of the new keys. If you have not yet paid your current dues, please contact our Treasurer, Phil Blanchette, to do so before requesting a key. If your dues are current, Thank You!
These keys are individually numbered and physically can't be copied. They are not to be shared with anyone other than the paid member’s family or personal guests. There is an authorization form to be signed by each member receiving a key - a copy is attached for your information. The actual form will be provided for you to sign when you pay your deposit and pick up your key.
Melanie Bolduc is our Association "key master". Please contact her when you are ready to get your key. She can be reached by phone at (781) 405-3615 after 5:30 pm on weekdays and any (reasonable) time on weekends. If Melanie is unavailable, please contact Cheryl Bryant by phone at (973) 220-8149. Please plan ahead and leave enough time to coordinate with Melanie regarding key pickup. We owe a large debt of gratitude to Melanie and Cheryl for voluntarily taking on this very important task.

At the end of May, our new milfoil survey team began the season’s work of looking for invasive variable milfoil on Androscoggin Lake, focusing on the Inner Cove, where we had removed the milfoil last fall. Unfortunately, we found that the plants had grown back and were covering an even larger area than last fall. Most plants were in 3-4 feet of water, with several already growing to within a foot of the surface.
On June 7th, staff from the DEP joined us and carefully removed all the plants we had found, which filled one-third of a large garbage bag. We are continuing to survey the cove, five days a week, monitoring regrowth and looking for plants in other areas. We have now found milfoil scattered throughout a larger area and in deeper waters. So far, the infestation appears to be small enough that we remain optimistic for a good outcome. Our strategy is to be as thorough and aggressive with our efforts now to prevent its spread and save hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars in future years. Photo left: Our milfoil survey team staff members Silas Mohlar and Gus Cooke surveying the Inner Cove.
Yellow DEP buoys that say “Avoid Milfoil Area” mark the outside edge of the area where plants have been found. Please do not enter this area. Boat props and fishing lures can fragment the plants, causing them to spread into other parts of the lake. Photo right: Milfoil survey staff member Maggie Stokes.
